There is naturally something about beards that draws hands to them like magnets. If it is not some stranger asking to touch it, you are probably rubbing your hands through it several times throughout the day. Whether it is to soothe an itch or it’s a subconscious tic, chances are, you’re touching your beard and face too much. Outside of the sheer germs our hands carry, you are causing overstimulation to follicles that are trying to thrive by scratching, stroking, combing and brushing in excess.
Stroking your beard transfers whatever is on your hands to your hair and ultimately the skin beneath. Now think about all the things you have touched today. How clean do you think your hands really are and do you want that on your face? Ew. Aside from that now being trapped in your beard, you are likely clogging your pores and causing acne or ingrown hair which is not fertile grounds for growing the full, healthy beard you want.
If you find yourself in a constant state of itchiness and that is why you can’t keep your hands or combs out of your beard, we have a few tips to help:
Wash your face. Your beard is collecting sweat, dead skin and food particles throughout the day. All of these are contributing factors to itchy skin. The Safi Soap is formulated to deep clean your beard and face. For Black men, we recommend using it directly on your beard twice per week and just washing around your beard the rest of the time. When you wash your face, let the soap run through your beard and thoroughly rinse out.
Moisture is key. Five Tribes Beard Oil is a must to keep your beard and skin hydrated. The blend of oils penetrates the hair and pores to provide maximum conditioning. Follow up with the Pharaoh Butter to lock it all in and help prevent drying throughout the day.
Select the right tools. When Curtis was first growing his beard, he would be talking to me and whip out a plastic pick to scratch. Not only is that the worst tool to use on a growing beard, he had gotten so use to doing it, he was damaging the skin and hair follicles without even realizing. While a comb is a better choice than your fingers, when you just have to scratch, make sure you have the right one. Our custom sandalwood comb is anti-static, helps prevent breakage and trains your hair to grow in the direction you desire.
